Paulo Almeida

Paulo is a Senior Partner and Director of Palm Legal's Lisbon office. Qualified in Portugal since 1989, he has been a member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 1991.

He was Managing Partner of Kennedys Portugal between 2011 and 2022.

Paulo specializes, to name a few, in Civil and Professional Liability of Directors and Officers (D&O), Commercial and Corporate Law and contentious. He spends most of his time providing consulting services and drafting policies for various local and international insurance and reinsurance companies in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, and Angola, as well as banking and financial institutions. He also provides advisory services on corporate and contractual matters to a telecommunications group, including out-of-court, litigation, and arbitration cases.

Paulo is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and has an intermediate level of French.

Paulo is an active member of the IBA – International Bar Association; AIDA – Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances (Portuguese Chapter); FDCC – Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel; and IRLS – Insurance & Reinsurance Legacy Association, in the UK.

• Advising and defending leading banks in complex insolvency and civil liability litigation;
• Advising and defending a major American insurance company in a multi-million dollar property and casualty indemnity lawsuit;
• Advising, representing, and defending insurance companies for several years in matters of professional civil liability in relation to numerous claims under a collective professional association policy;
• Representation and defense of a Lloyd's of London Reinsurance Syndicate in a recovery claim of more than £19 million against liable third parties;
• Advising an aeronautical company in an international financial transaction worth €20 million involving an aircraft;
• Former legal advisor to Lisbon City Council on matters such as public contracts and civil liability.
